Situated at the juncture of the Russian River Valley and the Green Valley, this site has proven to consistently produce distinctive, intense flavors. The deep Goldridge soil exists only in small bands scattered throughout hills of western of Sonoma County. Formed from an ancient volcanic deposit, Goldridge soil is considered by many to be the premiere soil for cultivating world class wine grapes. Cool marine air and fog floods the valley each night, chilling the grapes and slowing the ripening process, allowing for intense flavor development.
At sunrise, the gentle southeastern slope drains the cool air, the early morning fog dissipates, and the vines are exposed to warm sunny days. Vine rows are oriented north-south to best catch this light, with equal exposure to both sides of the vines. To compliment the site, we use a Vertical Shoot Position trellis, creating a canopy environment that ensures optimal sunlight penetration while allowing maximum air circulation, reducing disease pressure.
